Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) witnessed a marginal fall in cases filed and fines realised for violating traffic rules in the month of December 2020 compared to that of November of the same year.
The BRTA filed a total of 1,508 cases and realised over Tk 2.17 million in fines in December as against 1,511 cases and more than Tk 2.31 million in fines in November last year, according to a monthly report of the transport regulator.
The report also shows that the number of mobile court drives the transport authority had led in December was 206, which stood at 235 in the month before.
As many as 29 vehicles were dumped and 22 people were jailed for violating traffic rules in December, adds the report, while 12 vehicles were dumped and nine people were jailed in November 2020.
The BRTA conducts mobile court drives regularly across the country with a view to bringing discipline and order on the roads.
It lodged the cases as per the new Road Transport Act 2018 and other laws.
