BRAC, one of the largest NGOs in the world, provided assistance to some 500 poor families affected by flash floods in Cox’s Bazar district recently.
A total of 235 families at Jaliapalong, Palongkhali, Rajapalong, Ratnapalong, Haldiapalong unions of Ukhiya upazila and a total of 265 families at Whykong, Nhilla, Baharchara, Teknaf Sadar and Sabrang unions of Teknaf upazila received the aid, said a press release.
The Humanitarian Crisis Management Programme (HCMP) of BRAC, with the support from Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), distributed the materials among the affected people recently.
Shuvo Kumar Saha, Disaster Risk Reduction Sector Specialist of BRAC, and its field employees handed over the aid materials to the affected people.
Hasina Akhter Huq, Area Director of HCMP of BRAC, said, “Since its inception, BRAC has been working to improve the condition of disadvantaged people."
The government and the BRAC’s field-level employees stood by them and provided assistance at a time of natural calamity, she added.
Flash floods caused by heavy rainfall affected many people in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas.
