The Humanitarian Crisis Management Programme (HCMP) of BRAC organised a vaccination campaign as part of its involvement with the government’s inoculation programme for Rohingya people.
The campaign, titled ‘Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign for Rohingya Community’, began at the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar district on Tuesday, said a press release.
BRAC’s nurses administered vaccine doses to Rohingya people at camps 1-East, 8-East and No. 13 in Ukhiya upazila of the district.
The inoculation will take place from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm from August 10 to 18.
A total of 450 Rohingyas will be inoculated at the three camps daily.
As per the government instruction, those who are 55 or older will be vaccinated.
Only the refugees, having the ‘Family Counting Number’ -- an identification mark given by the government when they arrived in Bangladesh from Myanmar, will be vaccinated.
While expressing her reaction, Moriom Khatun, 57, a Rohingya woman who has taken vaccine at BRAC Primary Health Care Centre, 1 East, said she was happy to get the chance to get vaccinated for vaccination smoothly in a disciplined atmosphere.
In a statement, Hasina Akhter Huq, area director of HCMP said, “BRAC stood by the government since the start of Covid-19 to face the challenge of the pandemic”.
As part of our commitment, BRAC is now implementing the initiative to strengthen the government’s vaccination programme, she added.
