The government has formed a high-powered committee to oversee the overall purchases and sales activities of rawhide and skins of sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.
Besides, it will prepare a work plan one month before the festival in consultation with the stakeholders.
The monitoring committee will also submit review reports on rawhide to the commerce and industries ministries every three months.
The commerce ministry on Wednesday issued an official order in this regard.
The committee comprises senior officials from the commerce and industries ministries and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and representatives from Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters' Association, Bangladesh Tanners Association, Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchants Association and Dhaka Tannery Industrial Estate Wastage Treatment Plant Company Limited.
