Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president on Monday proposed Tk 6,360 as monthly wage for an entry level worker.
The proposal by BGMEA president Md Siddiqur Rahman, also garment factory owners’ representative, came at the third wage board meeting held at wage board office in the city.
On the other hand, workers’ representative proposed Tk 12,020 for the same post at the meeting.
Wage board chairman Aminul Islam presided over the meeting.
Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan women affairs secretary of Jatiya Shramik League proposed the amount as workers’ representative.
The board on July 8 gave a week's time to owner and worker representatives to submit their respective proposal for pay packages.
Earlier, the board in its first meeting on March 19 asked both the parties to submit their wage proposals.
On January 31, the government issued a gazette declaring the names of the owners' and workers' representatives on the board.
The current minimum monthly wage, set in 2013, is Tk 5,300.
Minimum wages for RMG workers were fixed at Tk 3,000 in 2010. It was Tk 1,662.50 in 2006 and Tk 940 in 1994.
