Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malay Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia (DPMM) to enhance trade and investment ties with Malaysia.
BMCCI President Syed Almas Kabir and DPMM President Dr Haji Abd Halim bin Hussin signed the agreement on behalf of their respective chambers at an event held at the BMCCI office in the city, according to a statement.
Expressing hope, Mr Kabir said the agreement between the two chambers will play an important role in enhancing trade and investment relations between the two countries.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on January 31, 1972, bilateral trade relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia have been strengthened, he noted.
The trade between the two countries has been expanding steadily in recent years, he said emphasizing the need for domestic investment as well as investment in Malaysia.
Mr Hussain expressed his satisfaction with the overall trade and investment situation in Bangladesh and hoped that the existing relationship between the two countries would be strengthened in the future.
He also sought the BMCCI leaders’ cooperation for the expansion of Malaysian businesses in Bangladesh.
Mr Hussain is leading a Malaysian delegation that is visiting Bangladesh to participate in the D-8 Chambers of Commerce (D-8 CCI) summit.
BMCCI Vice President Shabbir Ahmed Khan, joint secretary general Rubaiyat Ahsan, directors Sifat Ahmed Chaudhuri and Md Mamunur Rahman, among others, were present at the meeting.
