Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Wednesday signed a deal with Canadian firm Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) under a government-to-government arrangement to purchase three aircraft.

Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Mosaddek Ahmed and acting president of Canadian Commercial Corporation Carl Marcotte signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides at the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shajahan Kamal and Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Benoit Prefontaine were present at the signing ceremony.

The three aircraft of 'Dash8-Q400NG' series -- each having 74 economy seats -- will come from Bombardier Inc of Canada in three phases in 2020.

Earlier on November 15, 2016, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a proposal of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry allowing Biman Bangladesh Airlines to procure three aircraft from the Canadian firm.

Later, on July 17, last, the authorities concerned gave the final approval to the Biman Bangladesh Airlines, according to a UNB report.

Replying to a question, Biman MD Mosaddek Ahmed said the three aircraft will be operated on domestic routes and five more aircraft will be added to the country's flag carrier this year.
