The government is going to establish a new technological institute after Sheikh Hasina in Madaripur district.
The Bangladesh High-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) has initiated a project titled, 'Sheikh Hasina Institute of Future Technology' at $157.80 million.
To this end, the BHTPA recently wrote to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division for necessary cooperation.
It called the ICT Division for requesting the Economic Relations Division to seek foreign funds for the project.
The project is aimed at creating employment in the south-east region of the country, BHTPA managing director Hosne Ara Begum told the FE on Tuesday.
Under the project, she said, unemployed youths will be provided an opportunity for IT training and research.
The BHTPA official said, "We don't have any IT research institute in the country. So, we think this project will enable IT professionals to conduct IT research." Sources said Changjiang Planning Design and Research Company Ltd of China has recently showed interest to finance the project.
The BHTPA has proposed the government to start negotiations with the Chinese company or to seek Chinese soft loan to implement the scheme.
The Planning Commission approved the Primary Development Project Proforma (PDPP) a few months ago.
It is to be noted that the BHTPA a government agency dedicated to establish, manage and operate technology business parks.
Formed in 2010, the BHTPA is now implementing 28 information technology projects across the country.
