Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the state-owned Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) signed an agreement to develop the skills of workers and mid-level managers working in the RMG sector.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and EPB Director-General Mahbubur Rahman inked the deal on behalf of their respective organisations at the EBP office in the capital on Thursday, said a statement.
EPB Vice Chairman A.H.M. Ahasan was also present at the event.
As per the agreement, the training programme will be conducted for three years to develop the skills of the workers and employees of the readymade garment industry for better productivity and efficiency, added the statement.
Thanking the EPB, BGMEA said the demand for skilled workers is growing in the RMG sector, particularly in the mid-level management section, and the issue should be addressed duly.
“One of the best ways to enhance productivity is to make the workers skilled by imparting them necessary training.”
Congratulating the industry, Mr Ahasan said the RMG industry alone earned $42.61 billion out of $52.08 billion in export earnings in FY22.
He assured EPB's all-out support to the RMG sector in terms of promotion and market exploration.
