MYMENSINGH, May 01 (BSS): Speakers said on Thursday Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in fish production through various research activities conducted by BFRI.
"Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) has been playing a prime role in meeting our nutrition demand side by side increasing our foreign currency earnings," they said.
They were speaking at a two-day training programme on 'The role of media towards the extension of fisheries technology' at the auditorium of BFRI this noon.
BFRI Director General Dr. Yahia Mahmud Kamal presided over the inaugural session. Editor in charge of Daily Ittefaq Tasmim Hussain was present as the chief guest and Editor Daily Jahan Rabeka Yaesmin was present as the special guest.
Director of BFRI Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman delivered the welcome address shortly narrating the research activities and its success in the light of fish production. Journalists Ataul Karim also addressed at the inaugural session.
BFRI scientists highlighted their research activities and its progress in the farmers' level. They said BFRI has developed a vaccine for prevention of mass mortality of cultured Vietnamese Koi fish. It the first vaccine developed on fresh water in the country for which the cultivation of Vietnamese Koi gained popularity.
The scientists said that the newly developed vaccine will be able to protect 100% cultured V Koi fish. This kind of vaccine can be used effectively in case of other fishes infected with the same bacteria, they added.
Editor of Ittefaq Tasmim Hossen in her address praised the BFRI for their research activities and innovation in fish production by applying latest technologies.
DG of BFRI in his address highlighted the achievements and progress of research activities of BFRI and urged the journalists to play a constructive role through reporting.
Director Dr Nurullah Dr. Enamul Haque and Assistant director BAU PRO section Salim Hassan presented their key note papers at the function.
