Total number of Bangladeshi tourists to India jumped by 24 per cent in the first four months of the current year.
Estimate based on Indian tourism ministry statistics showed that some 0.75 million (7.50 lakh) Bangladeshis visited India in January-April period of 2018.
The number was 6.0 million (60 lakh) in the same period of the past year.
During the first four months of the current year, foreign tourist arrivals in India reached at 3.87 million (38.76 lakhs) which was around 3.5 million (35 lakh) in the same period of 2017.
Bangladeshi tourists are now top the list of foreign tourist arrivals in India.
As a result, Haridaspur Land Check Post in India (opposite border point of Benapole in Bangladesh) becomes the third largest port of foreign tourist arrivals in India after New Delhi and Mumbai airports.
The fully occupied running of Maitree Express, a cross-border train between Dhaka and Kolkata, also turns the Chitpur Railway Station 15th highest foreign tourist arrivals port in India.
