BD-Slovenia venture gets license to offer MNP

Bangladesh-Slovenia joint venture, Infozillion BD Teletech, got the licence to offer mobile number portability (MNP) services in the country on Tuesday.

MNP services will allow mobile users to change their operators without changing numbers.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood announced the decision at a news conference.

The government granted final approval on October 1 and Infozillion BD Teletech was given 30 days to pay the licence acquisition fee, said The BTRC chief.

Mahmood introduced Infozillion BD Teletech’s Managing Director Mabroor Hossain to the media, says a bdnews24.com report.

The service is being implemented four years after the proposal was approved in 2013. It is in available in 72 countries.

Users can switch operators within 72 hours of charging Tk 30, said Mahmood. They will have to wait for 90 days to change again.
