BCS leaders for withdrawal of proposed VAT on computers, spares

Leaders of Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) on Sunday demanded continuation of exemption of VAT (Value Added Tax) on computers and spares.

They also urged the government to withdraw the proposed VAT on computer parts.

According to the samity, prices of computer and spares will go up by 11 per cent if the proposal made in the budget for fiscal year 2018-2019 is implemented.

Opposing the government’ such move, the apex trade body for ICT- related businesses said  Imposition of additional VAT will at the same time pose a blow to the country’s digitalisation process.

The demand came at a post-budget press conference at the BCS innovation centre in the capital few weeks after the Finance Minister placed the proposed budget worth around Tk 4.64 trillion for the upcoming national budget.

The BCS President Engineer Subrata Sarker, Vice President Yusuf Ali Samim and Secretary General Mossaraf Hossain Sumon spoke at the function.
