British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh has been awarded as the highest-income taxpayer for the fiscal year 2021-22.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has honoured the BATB with this recognition under the others category (company), for nine consecutive years for its immense contribution to the national exchequer.
BAT Bangladesh Chairman Golam Mainuddin received the award along with the crest from Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal at an event organised by NBR at the Officers’ Club on Wednesday.
“We are humbled to receive the highest taxpayer award once again, and as always, we feel proud to have contributed to the development of the country’s economy as we sincerely believe the contribution to the national exchequer plays a crucial role in keeping the wheels of the economy running and an essential part of the country’s growth journey,” Golam Mainuddin said.
“Certainly, this recognition will inspire us. In the days to come, BAT Bangladesh will adhere to the laws of the land and keep working with NBR to make the income tax collection process more dynamic and effective.”
Presided over by the Chairman of NBR and Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources Division Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem, the function was also attended by
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Fatima Yasmin, and BATB Finance Director Amun Mustafiz were also present there.
During the aforementioned fiscal year, BAT Bangladesh contributed approximately Tk 282.80 billion to the government exchequer through VAT, supplementary duty, income tax, and other means.
