Bata Shoe Organization reports a revenue of BDT 1.98 billion in the third quarter of 2017. This represents a decrease of 26.8 per cent compared to BDT 2.7 billion revenue in the same period of 2016. The sales of Bata usually boom during festival seasons such as Eid ul Fitr, Durga Puja, and Eid ul Azha. The Eid ul Fitr took place in the second quarter this year whereas last year it took place in the third quarter. This looks to be one of the major causes behind such decline in this year's Q3 revenues.
According to industry insiders, continuous downpour and flooding this year in the northern and middle regions are also responsible for this decrease. Bata's EPS in the first nine months of 2017 was BDT 56.71 which represents a 18.46 per cent growth from the BDT 47.87 in the same period last year.
The company's gross profit, operating profit, and net profit were 44.7 per cent, 18.3 per cent, and 12 per cent respectively in comparison to 41.8 per cent, 16.5 per cent, and 11.2 per cent respectively in 2016, according to its third quarter financials.
