The commercial banks in Bangladesh spend only 0.25 per cent of their total operating cost to develop human resources, though staff are the main driver for profit making, a study has showed.
The spending for training and development of the banks’ human resources has declined to 0.25 per cent in 2017 from 0.50 per cent the year before, it revealed.
Globally good banks spend some 2.0-3.0 per cent of their total operating cost for human resources development.
The Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) showed the findings of its latest survey on ‘Human Resources Management of Banks’, unveiled at a workshop on its campus in the capital on Thursday.
Associate Professor of the BIBM Mohammad Tazul Islam and his team conducted the study on different commercial banks and Bangladesh bank.
The study also showed that commercial banks in Bangladesh failed to fully spend their total allocated funds for training and development last year as they spent 73 per cent of Tk 359.44 million outlay.
