Green finance of the country’s banks and financial institutions (FIs) is still below 2.0 per cent of their total funding in different projects.
The amount was 1.27 per cent in 2018, show latest statistics, released by the central bank last week.
Again, banks and FIs' disbursement of green finance stood at only 0.97 per cent of that of their total funded loan in past year.
Total investment by banks in 2018 stood at Tk 2443.64 billion, of which Tk 23.72 billion was invested in green finance, during the period under review.
The central bank quarterly review of green financing also mentioned that all the scheduled banks (except Probashi Kallyan Bank) have formed their own Sustainable Finance Unit and Green Banking Policy Guidelines.
Moreover, all the FIs (except Lankan Alliance Finance Limited) have also formed their own Green Banking Policy Guidelines.
