The central bank has relaxed rules, allowing all the scheduled banks to submit their audited balance sheets by June 30, mainly due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, officials said.
The banks are now allowed to submit their annual reports by June 30 instead of April 30, according to a notification issued by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Wednesday.
Talking to the FE, a senior BB official said the regulator has extended the deadline for submissions by banks by another two months after consulting the government in line with the Banking Companies Act.
"Some banks are yet to submit their audited annual reports to the central bank because of the second wave of the (coronavirus) pandemic," the central banker explained.
The existing rules stipulate that banks submit their audited balance sheets to the BB within two months after the end of each calendar year.
The central bank is empowered to extend the timeframe for submitting such balance sheets for another two months.
Earlier, it asked the banks to submit their audited balance sheets of 2020 to the Department of Off-Site Supervision (DOS) by April 30.
