Bangladesh government is set to procure 65 more trucks from India's Ashok Leyland through a deal as part of a $2.0 billion line of credit (LoC) between the two countries, according to Indian media reports.
As part of another deal, the commercial vehicle maker had already delivered 135 built trucks to Bangladesh, taking the total number of vehicles to 200 from two separate orders, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the Ashok Leyland, the auto maker announced that it had won the tender for 135 fully-built trucks included a 3T truck, hydraulic beam lifter, and Sewerage sucker, which was floated by Bangladesh government.
In the current financial year, these trucks have already been handed over to the Bangladesh Roads and Highways Department (RHD)
Ashok Leyland has now been awarded an order for another lot of 65 units of Truck Mounted Wrecker, a specialised vehicle to be deployed by the Bangladesh government for various highway applications, said the PTI report.
"Bangladesh is one of our key export markets, and this supply further strengthens our position in the country. We are enthused by the various export facilitation measures taken by the Indian Government," Amandeep Singh, head of the international operation, Ashok Leyland was quoted as saying.
Ashok Leyland is one of the leading commercial vehicle brands in Bangladesh, with more than 50 touch points across the country, according to the company, it said.
Apart from supplying many vehicles from India, the company also assembles its range of trucks, buses, and LCV vehicles locally at IFAD Auto Dhamrai plant in Bangladesh, it added.
