Finance Minister A M A Muhith backtracked on Friday from his position regarding formation of a banking commission by this month.

Rather, he wanted to pass the responsibility of forming the commission onto the next government.

"No, I am not formulating a banking commission," he told newsmen at a post-budget press conference in the capital.

"The formation of a banking commission will depend on the next government."

Mr Muhith, however, said he has prepared all necessary documents for constituting the commission.

He noted that Bangladesh's banking sector has expanded notably. But until now many people are out of banking facility.

Earlier, the minister on Monday last said a banking commission will be set up by June.

The previous banking commission was formulated in 2004.
