Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu has rebutted the criticisms over the installation of quick rental power plants in the country.
The launching of quick rental power plants was initially criticised by a section of people, but it has impacted positively on the country’s overall electricity generation capacity, the minister said.
Frequent power outrage was a common phenomenon in the country earlier, but now the rate of load shedding has come down to almost zero due to the government’s initiative to produce about 16,000 megawatts of electricity, he mentioned.
Amu made the remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the '9th Bangladesh Infrastructure, Innovation and Development (BIID) Expo and Dialogue’ on Thursday.
The four-day expo is being held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre-BICC in the capital aiming to promote development of green industries and raise awareness on environment protection, technology and innovation.
The government’s priority is to focus on industrialisation t hat does not leave negative impact on the environment. Besides, government is also firm on maintaining zero industrial-pollution and industrial-accident, he mentioned.
Amu said apart from ready-made garments industry, medicine, footwear, ceramics, plastic, shipbuilding industries are being developed.
ExpoNet Exhibition Pvt. Ltd in collaboration with the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) and the Power Cell under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources organised the expo.
ExpoNet Exhibition Managing Director Rashedul Haque said a large number of international experts, government high officials, local businessmen and specialists, including 60 highly reputed speakers would exchange knowledge on eco-industry in six different sessions during the expo.
60 leading global companies from six countries, including Bangladesh will showcase their energy-efficient and innovative industrial technology at the expo.
The expo will remain open from 10:00am to 08:00pm till March 04.
