The government is set to exempt advance income tax (AIT) on the import of all types of vaccines to make them affordable and facilitate Covid-19 vaccination.

The income tax wing of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) offered the waiver from payment of 5.0 per cent AIT through issuing a draft Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) on Thursday.

Stakeholders were requested to give their opinion on the draft amendment within 15 days of the publication of the draft SRO.

The revenue board will accommodate the suggestions or objections, if any, from stakeholders, otherwise the pre-publication of the SRO will be considered as final, the SRO said.

Officials of the revenue board said that traditionally they did not get any objection against such amendment proposal related to the public interest.

Officials said the waiver was offered following requests of the Directorate General of Health Services for coronavirus vaccine.

However, the NBR offered the wavier to all types of human vaccines considering the importance of all types of vaccination.
