The government has selected 67 non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to honour them with the CIP (commercially important person) status for the year 2020 for their contribution to the country's economy.
The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has sent a final list to the cabinet division for consideration.
The NRB CIPs are selected under three categories - extraordinary performance and contribution by sending US$0.1 million in remittances, $0.3 million investment to Bangladeshi industries, and importing $0.3 million worth Bangladeshi products to foreign countries.
For the year 2020, some 57 individuals have been proposed for sending the highest amount of remittances through banking channels and 10 individuals for importing Bangladeshi products to foreign countries, according to the expatriates' welfare ministry.
However, no individual has been selected as CIP under the category 'industrial investment' due to a lack of availability, a source said.
The government will soon issue a gazette notification after finalising the list.
The selected individuals will get various facilities for two years, including enjoying the permission to enter the Secretariat, the invitation to participate in various national programmes, and priority booking of air, railway and waterway tickets for business purposes.
Besides, they get access to VIP lounges at local airports. Family members of the CIPs would get priority while booking cabins in government hospitals for treatment.
Investment by the CIPs will be given necessary protection by the government.
The selection committee formed earlier has prepared the list as per the CIP selection policy-2018.
