The number of bank branches powered by solar energy in the country reached 500 by the end of past fiscal year (FY17).
The latest report of the green banking, released by Bangladesh Bank last month, also mentioned that two branches of financial institutions (FIs) are now solar powered.
Thus, total number of the branches of banks and FIs stood at 502 at the end of June this year. Currently there are 10,200 branches of banks and 226 branches of FIs.
The central bank report also showed that there are 259 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and SME units now run by solar energy across the country.
