Country's maritime court has issued an arrest warrant against 13 container vessels following a lawsuit filed by a private commercial bank.

This is for the first time in the country's maritime history a large number of vessels are faced with such a court order at the same time.

Shipping executives have told the FE that this will impact the export-import trade as the vessels cannot leave Chittagong seaport until there is a settlement of the cases.

Local agents of the container vessels said they received the warrant Saturday evening.

Shahed Sarwar, Executive Director of K-Line Bangladesh Limited, a local agent of the container vessels, was among those who confirmed this.

Shipping circles said that the bank filed the case as potato goods carried by the vessels were found to be rotten on reaching the destinations.
