The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) included on Sunday 10 new products under its mandatory quality standard-certificate provision.
The products are disposable diapers, face wash, petroleum jelly, bread (flatbread tortilla), aerosols, geyser, shaving cream, eye care, hair dice liquid and shoe polishing liquid.
The BSTI took the decision during its 37th BSTI Council meeting at its head office in the capital's Tejgaon area on the day.
The number of products for mandatory quality standard certificate of BSTI is now 229.
Speaking at the meeting Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun who is also the chairman of the BSTI Council said that the institution has earned people's confidence for ensuring standard of products and quality. He urged BSTI's officials to be more cautious and active in ensuring the standard of the products.
He suggested the BSTI to ensure quality while issuing halal certificates of products.
BSTI Director General and also member secretary of the council Md Abdus Sattar chaired the meeting.
State minster for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder called upon the BSTI to take hard-line if needed for the interests of the consumers.
He blamed a section of traders for food adulteration and blasted the unscrupulous traders for making excessive profits by taking advantage of Covid-19 pandemic.
Industries Secretary Jakia Sultana and high officials of the industries ministry were also present.
