Hong Kong stocks edge up, surge 36pc


HK shares poise to gain 36pc in 2017

Hong Kong stocks edged higher on Friday, poised to gain roughly 36 per cent for the year.

The Hang Seng Index was up 0.4 per cent at 29,969.51. Chinese H-shares listed in Hong Kong also rose 0.4 per cent to 11,725.01, pushing their gain this year to nearly 25 per cent, reports Reuters.

The sub-index of the Hang Seng index tracking energy shares rose 0.2 per cent while the IT sector fell 0.3 per cent.

The top gainer on Hang Seng was Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd up 2.44 per cent, while the biggest loser was Country Garden Holdings Company Ltd which was down 1.83 per cent.
