United Power tops turnover chart after earnings results

United Power dominated the Dhaka bourse's turnover chart on Monday while top ten traded companies captured 28 per cent transaction.

Market analysts said investors continued to show their buying appetite on United Power Generation & Distribution Company shares as the company posted modest earnings growth in July-December period.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) (separate) rose 15.18 per cent to Tk 5.31 for July-December. The EPS (separate) was Tk 4.61 for July-December, 2017.

The company reported its consolidated EPS of Tk 7.69 for July-December, 2018.

The financial performance of the United Power for July-December and October-December, 2018 were disclosed on the website of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday.

According to statistics from the DSE, about 1.49 million shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 600 million, which was 6.75 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 8.89 billion on Monday which was Tk 9.84 billion in the previous day.

The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 401.20 on Monday, gaining 1.93 per cent over the previous day.

The United Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.70 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 5.43 per cent, foreign investors 0.13 per cent and the general public 4.44 per cent as of December 31, 2018.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable followed next, with shares worth Tk 347 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 150, losing 3.72 per cent over the previous day.

Khulna Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 280 million changing hands. The company's share fell 0.76 per cent to close at Tk 64.70.

Singer BD emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 231 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 246.40 each, advancing 3.35 per cent.

Meghna Petroleum notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 192 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.66 per cent to close at Tk 238.10.

The turnover of Baraka Power was Tk 173 million. The company's share price rose 3.84 per cent to close at Tk 32.40.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 164 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 308.30 each, soaring 5.95 per cent.

The turnover of Bangladesh National Insurance was Tk 158 million. The company's share closed at Tk 26.40 each, losing 3.30 per cent over the previous day.

Grameenphone featured a turnover of Tk 155 million. The company's share price jumped 2.0 per cent to close at Tk 402.

Power Grid Company was also included in the top 10 turnover chart with shares of Tk 146 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 61.90, soaring 8.03 per cent over the previous day.
