The United Power dominated the Dhaka bourse's turnover chart on Tuesday while ten most traded companies captured nearly 37 per cent of transactions.
Market analysts said the investors continued to show their buying appetite for United Power Generation & Distribution Company's shares as it posted modest earnings growth for July-December period.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) (separate) rose 15.18 per cent to Tk 5.31 for July-December 2018. The EPS (separate) was Tk 4.61 for July-December 2017.
The company reported its consolidated EPS of Tk 7.69 for July-December 2018.
According to statistics from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), about 1.39 million shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 571 million, which was 9.33 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 6.12 billion on Tuesday, which was Tk 8.91 billion in the previous session.
The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 415.30 on Tuesday, advancing 2.69 per cent over the previous day.
In the last one month, its share price went up by 20 per cent or Tk 69.80 each. Its share closed at Tk 347 on January 20, 2019.
In the last one year, the company's share traded between Tk 151.60 and Tk 416.80 each.
The United Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.70 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.
The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 5.86 per cent, foreign investors 0.11 per cent and the general public 4.03 per cent as of January 31, 2109.
Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company came in next, with shares worth Tk 430 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 171.20 each, advancing 3.95 per cent over the previous session.
Grameenphone clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 241 million changing hands. The company's share advanced 0.63 per cent to close at Tk 379.50 each.
Square Pharmaceuticals emerged the fourth, with shares worth Tk 216 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 268.40, gaining 0.90 per cent.
Fortune Shoes notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 208 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 2.53 per cent to close at Tk 36.40.
