Ten top-traded companies clinch 27pc transaction

Ten top-traded companies captured nearly 27 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Monday with Beximco topping the list for the 25th running sessions.

Market operators said the investors continued their buying appetite on Bangladesh Export Import Company (Beximco) shares amid positive expectations for the days ahead.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 9.22 million shares of Beximco were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 288 million. It was 5.87 per cent of the premier bourse's total transaction.

The Beximco's shares price traded between Tk 30.50 and Tk 31.70 each, before closing at Tk 31.40, advancing 2.28 per cent over the previous session.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.41 for January-March quarter of 2018 as against Tk 0.33 for October-December, 2017.

In nine months, the earnings per share was Tk 1.09 for July 2017 to March 2018 as against Tk 0.87 in the same period in the previous year.

Beximco, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1989, disbursed 5.0 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividends for the year ended on June 30, 2017.

Apart from Beximco, the most other active shares in terms of value included Bangladesh Thai Aluminium, Square Pharmaceuticals, Grameenphone, United Power, Shepherd Industries, Western Marine Shipyard, Queen South Textile, Navana CNG and IFAD Autos.

BD Thai Aluminium came next, with shares worth Tk 146 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 3.89 per cent to close at Tk 26.70 each.

Square Pharma was third on the turnover list with shares worth Tk 135 million changing hands. The second largest market listed company's share price closed at Tk 303, shedding 0.62 per cent over the previous day.

Grameenphone clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 128 million changing hands. The largest market-cap company's share closed at Tk 462.80 each, losing 0.17 per cent over the previous day.

United Power emerged fifth with shares worth Tk 122 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price advanced 0.75 per cent to close at Tk 201.30 each.

Shepherd Industries also saw its shares worth Tk 119 million change hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 30.80, soaring 7.69 per cent over the previous day.

The turnover of Western Marine Shipyard was Tk 108 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 108, falling 2.02 per cent.

Queen South Textile featured a turnover of Tk 107 million. The company's share price rose further by 1.07 per cent to close at Tk 47.60 each.

The turnover of Navana CNG was Tk 104 million. The company's share price rose 2.05 per cent to close at Tk 74.70 each.

The IFAD Autos also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 103 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.80 per cent to close at 114.50 each.
