Prime Finance leads DSE turnover chart

Ten cos grab 26pc transactions

Ten most-traded companies accounted for 26 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with Prime Finance & Investment, a 'Z' category company, making it to the top of the chart.

Market insiders said investors showed their appetite for Prime Finance shares after the company reported positive consolidated earnings per share (EPS) after witnessing negative consolidated EPS in the past few years.

The company has reported consolidated EPS of Tk 0.22 for the year ended on December 31, 2018 as against negative Tk 1.68 for the previous year.

The company's consolidated EPS was Tk 0.04 for January-March 2019 as against negative Tk 0.51 for January-March 2018.

The company did not declare dividend in the past four years. The last time it disbursed dividend was in 2014 -- 14.50 per cent cash dividend.

According to the DSE data, 20.65 million shares of Prime Finance were traded on Thursday, generating a turnover of Tk 221 million, which was 6.92 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.19 billion on Thursday, up from Tk 2.90 billion in the day before.

The company's share price closed at Tk 11 each on Thursday, soaring 3.77 per cent over the previous day.

The company's share traded between Tk 8.30 and Tk 11.40 in the last one year.

The Prime Finance was listed on the DSE in 2005.

Brac Bank came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 144 million changing hands. The bank's share closed at Tk 60.80, advancing 3.75 per cent.

Newly listed Runner Automobiles clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 136 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 8.63 per cent to close at Tk 88.90 each.

The United Power emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 107 million changing hands. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 327.60 each, advancing 0.98 per cent.

Eastern Cables notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 89 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.55 per cent to close at Tk 353.70 each.

The turnover of Monno Ceramic was Tk 83 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 235.60, gaining 2.08 per cent over the previous day.

Fortune Shoes featured a turnover of Tk 75 million. The company's share price fell 2.32 per cent to close at Tk 37.80 each.

Gramemephone (GP) featured a turnover of Tk 61 million. The company's share closed at Tk 337.90 each, shedding 1.42 per cent over the previous session.

The turnover of Prime Life Insurance Company was Tk 56 million. The company's share price dropped 0.96 per cent to close at Tk 51.10 each.

Doreen Power also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 55 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.73 per cent to close at Tk 81.60 each.
