Ten cos account for 26pc transactions on DSE

Ten most traded companies accounted for over 26 per cent of transactions on the prime bourse on Thursday, with the National Tubes making it to the top of the turnover chart.

Market analysts said a section of investors were active on National Tubes shares amid high dividend expectations. The board of directors of the company is likely to declare its dividend on November 3.

The company has informed that a meeting of the board of directors will be held on November 03 to consider, among others, audited financial statements of the company for the year ended on June 30, 2019.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, some 1.28 million shares of National Tubes were traded, generating a turnover of 188 million or 4.63 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 4.05 billion.

The state-run company's share price jumped 9.96 per cent to close at Tk 152.40 at the DSE on Thursday.

The company's share traded between Tk 98.30 and Tk 205.90 in the last one year.

The National Tubes, listed on the DSE in 1989, disbursed 10 per cent stock dividend in 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 316.56 million and authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion while the total number of securities is 31.65 million.

The sponsor-directors own 0.05 per cent stake in the company, while the government owns 51 per cent, institutional investors own 9.86 per cent and the general public 39.09 per cent as of September 30, 2019, the DSE data show.

Sonar Bangla Insurance came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 136 million changing hands. The company's share price plunged 6.95 per cent to close at Tk 38.80 each.

Northern Jute Manufacturing Company clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 134 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 765.20 each, losing 7.09 per cent.

BRAC Bank emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 125 million changing hands. The bank's share price plunged 5.07 per cent to close at Tk 50.60 each.

BATBC notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 123 million changing hands. The multinational company's share closed at Tk 1,149.50, gaining 2.30 per cent.

The turnover of VFS Thread Dyeing was Tk 94 million. The company's share closed at Tk 25.30 each, soaring 7.20 per cent.

Stylecraft featured a turnover of Tk 89 million. The textile company's share closed at Tk 727, losing 1.89 per cent.

The turnover of Wata Chemicals was Tk 62 million. The company's share price shed 1.07 per cent to close at Tk 616.80 each.

Standard Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 61 million. The company's share closed at Tk 573 each, losing 1.78 per cent over the previous day.

Premier Bank also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 53 million changing hands. The bank's share price advanced 1.65 per cent to close at Tk 12.30 each.
