Fortune Shoes generates highest turnover

Ten most traded companies accounted for one-fourth transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), with the Fortune Shoes bagging the top spot on the turnover chart for the third straight session on Sunday.

Market insiders said investors continued to show their appetite for the shoemaker's stocks after the company reported a 35 per cent earnings growth for the January-March quarter of 2019.

The news that the Fortune Shoes signed an agreement with New York-based Steve Madden for export of Shoes for US$ 4.0 million also lured investors to buy Fortune shares, they said.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for January-March 2018.

According to DSE statistics, about 4.96 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded on Sunday, generating a turnover of more than Tk 200 million, making up 5.49 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The shoemaker's share traded between Tk 39.30 and Tk 41.40, before closing at Tk 39.70 on Sunday, losing 0.50 per cent despite the news of export deal.

The United Power came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 156 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 379.50, advancing 0.74 per cent over the previous day.

Federal Insurance clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 99 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 3.18 per cent to close at Tk 16.20 each.

The JMI Syringes emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 73 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 447.6 each, falling 0.11 per cent.

Beximco notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 67 million changing hands. The company's share price plunged 7.18 per cent to close at Tk 18.10 each.

The turnover of Sea Pearl Beach Resort was Tk 66 million. The newly listed company's share closed at Tk 39.20 each, soaring 8.29 per cent.

Dhaka Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 66 million. The insurer's share price advanced 1.97 per cent to close at Tk 41.50 each.

National Life Insurance featured a turnover of Tk61 million. The company's share closed at Tk 267.10 each, advancing 1.87 per cent.

The turnover of Continental Insurance was Tk 60 million. The company's share price soared 9.87 per cent to close at Tk 24.50 each.

Prime Insurance also made its way to the day's top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 52 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 4.88 per cent to close at Tk 25.88 each.
