Stocks open higher as bargain hunters go on buying large-cap shares

Stocks opened higher on Thursday as the bargain hunters went on buying large-cap shares after the previous day’s sharp decline.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 38.21 points or 0.55 per cent to stand at 6,990, after the first hour of trading at 11:00 am.

Two other indices also saw upward trends till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, rose 12.85 points to stand at 2,633 and the Shariah Index (DSES) gained 7.77 points to stand at 1,474 till then.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 2.43 billion within the first hour of trading at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded till then, 247 advanced, 74 declined and 47 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

GSP Finance was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 216 million cha First Security Islami Bank and ML Dyeing.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also opened higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—gaining 71 points to stand at 20,430 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 43 points to reach 12,276, also at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded till then 88 advanced, 32 declined and 23 remained unchanged with Tk 113 million in turnover.
