Stocks open higher after 2-day fall

Stocks opened higher on Tuesday, after a two-day sharp fall, as bargain hunters are showing their buying interest in the sector-wise issues.

Following the previous two days’ sharp decline, DSEX, the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 28.36 points or 0.42 per cent to stand at 6,764, after the first hour of trading at 11:00am.

Market analysts said stocks bounce back as bargain hunters are buying sector-specific large-cap stocks which saw a significant price fall in the past few days.

The media reports that the DSE is going to sit with more than 80 business groups including top ones today (Tuesday) as part of its move to encourage which also prompted the investors, according to a stockbroker.

However, a section of investors remained struggling with lack of confidence due to tussle between two regulators and fear over omicron, he said.

Two other indices also saw a positive trend till then. Of them, DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 7.83 points to stand at 2,536, and Shariah Index (DSES) rose 4.40 points to stand at 1,437 till then.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.59 billion within the first hour of trading at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 221 declined, 78 advanced and 55 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

Beximco was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 186 million changing hands, closely followed by ONE Bank, Eastern Lubricants, IFIC Bank, and AMCL (Pran).

Chittagong Stock Exchange also opened higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI) rising 76 points to stand at 19,674 while the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) gained 43 points to reach 11,821, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 84 advanced, 30 declined, and 17 remained unchanged with Tk 57 million in turnover.
