Stock trading resumes Tuesday after Eid break

Trading and official activities on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) will resume tomorrow (Tuesday) after Eid break. 

The bourses remained closed for four days from July 8 to July 11, including weekly holidays, on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims,. 

Trading on the bourses will begin at 10:00 am as usual and will continue until 2:30 pm. 

Meanwhile, stocks finished almost flat on July 7, the last trading day before Eid-ul-Azha, as investors stayed cautious amidst several macroeconomic cues. 

DSEX, the key index of the DSE, saw a fractional gain of 0.90 point to settle at 6,368.95 on July 7. 

Two other indices, however, dropped slightly. The blue-chip index DS30, a group of 30 prominent companies, lost 6.09 points to close at 2,293 and the DSES Index, which represents Shariah-based companies, shed 1.30 points to finish at 1,387 on July 7. 

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, amounted to Tk 7.87 billion, which was 5.0 per cent higher than the previous day’s tally of Tk 7.46 billion. 

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) inched up with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –gaining 2.35 points to settle at 18,751.83 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX –rising 0.25 point to close at 11,238.24 on July 7, the last trading day before Eid holidays. 

Market operators said outlook remains gloomy as investors are concerned about several macroeconomic issues such as nationwide power outages due to gas shortages, inflationary pressure, depreciating currency, rising Covid-19 cases etc.
