Renata generates highest turnover

Ten cos account for 27pc transactions on DSE

Ten most traded companies accounted for nearly 27 per cent of transactions on the prime bourse on Thursday, with Renata generating the highest turnover.

Market analysts said investors were active on Renata shares throughout the session following the news of amalgamation of Renata and Renata Oncology.

The board of directors of Renata has approved a draft scheme of merger with its subsidiary Renata Oncology, subject to approval from creditors and shareholders and sanction of the High Court, according to an official disclosure published on Thursday.

The board approved the draft scheme of amalgamation, with the exchange of 0.02 shares of Renata Ltd. for each share of Renata Oncology Ltd. based on net asset value per share as on June 30, 2019.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, some 106,816 shares of Renata were traded, generating a turnover of 141 million, which was 4.42 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 3.19 billion.

The company's share price, however, fell 2.91 per cent to close at Tk 1,306.60 on the DSE.

The company's share traded between Tk 1,090 and Tk 1,350 in the last one year.

Renata, listed on the DSE in 1997, disbursed 95 per cent cash and 15 per cent stock dividend in 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 805.36 million and authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion while total number of securities is 80.53 million.

The sponsor-directors own 51.16 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 19.40 per cent, foreign investors 22.41 per cent and the general public 7.03 per cent as of October 31, 2019, the DSE data showed.

National Tubes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 125 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 6.34 per cent to close at Tk 154.20 each.

Square Pharma clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 118 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 237.30 each, losing 2.18 per cent.

Fortune Shoes emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 90 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.66 per cent to close at Tk 30.70 each.

Sonar Bangla Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 74 million changing hands. The insurer's share closed at Tk 49.60 each, gaining 4.86 per cent.

The turnover of Kattali Textile was Tk 70 million. The company's share closed at Tk 13.50 each, soaring 5.47 per cent.

Grameenphone featured a turnover of over Tk 58 million. The lone listed mobile phone company's share closed at Tk 306.20 each, losing 1.26 per cent.

The turnover of Standard Ceramic was also more than Tk 58 million. The company's share price rose 4.35 per cent to close at Tk 529.60 each.

Wata Chemicals featured a turnover of Tk 58 million. The company's share closed at Tk 598.80 each, losing 0.81 per cent over the previous day.

Beacon Pharma also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 54 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.70 per cent to close at Tk 28.20 each.
