Top ten traded companies captured 27 per cent turnover of the Dhaka bourse on Tuesday while Premier Bank topped the chart after long time.
Three banks -- Premier Bank, Dhaka Bank and IFIC Bank featured in the top turnover chart, accounting for 11 per cent of the day's total turnover.
Market analysts said investors continued their focus on the banking sector's issues amid dividend expectations.
The banking sector also gained 0.70 per cent on the day as prices of 18 banks closed green, while seven declined and five remained unchanged.
According to the data from the DSE, about 37.96 million shares of the Premier Bank were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 607 million, which was 6.82 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 8.90 billion on Tuesday which was Tk 8.851 billion on the previous session.
The bank's share price closed at Tk 16.40 each, registering an increase of 9.33 per cent over the previous day. It was also the day's third highest gainer.
The Premier Bank, which was listed on the DSE in 2007, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2017.
The bank's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.44 for July-September 2018 as against Tk 0.50 for July-September 2017.
In nine months for January-September 2018, consolidated EPS was Tk 1.40 as against Tk 1.37 for January-September 2017.
The bank's paid-up capital is Tk 8.0 billion, authorised capital is Tk 10 billion and the total number of securities is 800.08 million.
The sponsor-directors own 35.22 per cent stake in the bank, while institutional investors own 18.59 per cent, and the general public 46.19 per cent as of December 31, 2018.
United Power followed next, with shares worth Tk 343 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 365.30 each, gaining 3.13 per cent over the previous day.
Square Pharmaceuticals clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 295 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.51 per cent to close at Tk 267.80 each.
Dhaka Bank emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 210 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 18.90 each, gaining 3.28 per cent.
Bangladesh Submarine Cable notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 159 million changing hands. The state-run company's share price advanced 4.60 per cent to close at Tk 125.
The turnover of Saiham Cotton Mills was Tk 165 million. The company's share price advanced 1.88 per cent to close at Tk 27.10.
Shurwid Industries featured a turnover of Tk 153 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 33.50 each, falling 0.59 per cent.
