Most ten-traded cos snare 36pc transaction

Most ten-traded firms grabbed more than 36 per cent transaction on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Sunday while United Power dominated the chart for the second day in a raw.

Market analysts said investors continued to show their appetite for United Power shares amid earnings expectation as the January-March quarter ended.

The United Power Generation & Distribution Company posted a modest earnings growth in the period of July-December 2018.

Its earnings per share (EPS) (separate) rose 15.18 per cent to Tk 5.31 for July-December 2018. The EPS (separate) was Tk 4.61 for the same period in 2017.

According to statistics from the DSE, about 958,541 shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 392 million, which was 10.83 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.61 billion on Sunday which was Tk 3.52 billion in the previous day.

The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 410.10 on Sunday, gaining 1.73 per cent over the previous day.

Its share price traded between Tk 154.10 and Tk 422.50 in the last one year.

The United Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion, authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 6.37 per cent, foreign investors 0.08 per cent and the general public 3.55 per cent as of February 28, 2019.

BATBC followed next, with shares worth Tk 238 million changing hands. The multinational company's share closed at Tk 4,547.10, advancing 1.42 per cent over the previous day.

Monno Ceramic clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 124 million changing hands. The company's share price fell further by 2.02 per cent to close at Tk 348.60 each.

Grameenphone (GP) emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 108 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 409.20, rising 0.44 per cent over the previous day.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 105 million changing hands. The state-run company's share price rose 2.35 per cent to close at Tk 156.90 each.

The turnover of Confidence Cement was Tk 96 million. The company's share price rose 5.76 per cent to close at Tk 167 each.

Singer Bangladesh featured a turnover of Tk 69 million. The company's share closed at Tk 193.80 each, gaining 0.88 per cent.

The turnover of JMI Syringes was Tk 66 million. The company's share closed at Tk 354.70 each, losing 3.82 per cent over the previous day.

Agrani Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 60 million. The company's share closed at Tk 37.60 each, soaring 8.67 per cent. It was also the day's highest gainer.

Meghna Petroleum also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 59 million changing hands. The state-run company's share price closed at Tk 198.80, losing 2.50 per cent over the previous day.
