Ten top-traded companies captured more than 20 per cent of transactions on the country's premier bourse on Thursday, with Monno Ceramic Industries making its way to the top of the turnover list.
Brokers said the investors were active in buying Monno Ceramic shares throughout the trading session amid positive expectations.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 832,095 shares of Monno Ceramic were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 120 million, or 2.84 per cent of the Dhaka bourse's total transactions.
The total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 4.22 billion, which was 8.48 per cent higher than the previous day's turnover of Tk 3.89 billion.
The Monno Ceramic's share price traded between Tk 138.50 and Tk 147.80, before closing 6.74 per cent higher at Tk 145.60.
The company's share price hit its year-high of Tk 147.80 on the day due to strong buying pressure. In the past one year, the company's share price traded between Tk 36 and Tk147.80.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) in the October-December quarter (Q2) 2017 stood at Tk 1.50 as against Tk 0.05 for the same period a year ago.
In six months for July-December of 2017, the company's EPS was Tk 1.69, which was Tk 0.10 for the July-December period of 2016.
The company disbursed 5.0 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividends for shareholders for the year that ended on June 30, 2017.
Apart from Monno Ceramic, the most other active shares in terms of value included IFAF Autos, City Bank, Square Pharmaceuticals, Alif Industries, LankaBangla Securities, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Aamra Networks, Unique Hotel & Resorts and Keya Cosmetics.
IFAD Autos came in next, with shares worth more than Tk 117 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 121.40, advancing 3.32 per cent over the previous session.
The City Bank secured the third position, with shares worth Tk 114 million changing hands. The bank's share price soared 2.35 per cent to close at Tk 39.20.
Square Pharmaceuticals clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 77 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 0.89 per cent to close at Tk 316.10.
Alif Industries emerged the fifth, with shares worth Tk 72 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 100.30, surging 6.81 per cent over the previous day.
LankaBangla saw its shares worth Tk 71 million change hands. The company's share price advanced 2.86 per cent to close at Tk 35.90.
The turnover of Al-Arafah Bank was Tk 69 million. Each share of the bank's closed at Tk 24.20, remaining unchanged.
Aamra Networks featured a turnover of Tk 66 million. The company's share price rose 2.32 per cent to close at Tk 92.60.
The turnover of Unique Hotel was Tk 65.85 million. The company's share price gained 3.77 per cent to close at Tk 60.50.
Keya Cosmetics also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 63 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.0 per cent to close at 10.10.
