The prices of most of the shares on bourses witnessed positive trend in early hour of trading on Thursday, the last trading session of the 2018, as some investors are active on sector-wise issues.
Brokers said the market maintained upturn following the news that the securities regulator on Wednesday relaxed the margin rules for another two years and allowed stockbrokers and merchant bankers to conduct transactions in their clients’ margin accounts, having negative equity.
Following the previous six days’ gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed positive trend, but trading activities remains low.
Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 15 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 30 points at 10:45am.
After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 23 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 49 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 23.25 points or 0.42 per cent to stand 5,372 points at 11:00am.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 6.72 points to reach at 1,874 points till then.
The DSE Shariah Index also advanced 5.08 points to stand at 1,231 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 584 million on DSE when the report was filed at 11:00am.
The low-cap companies dominated the turnover chart with JMI Syringes was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 47 million changing hands, closely followed by BD Autocars, Brac Bank, Sonali Aansh Industries and Sonargoan textile.
Of the issues traded till then, 183 advanced, 47 declined and 38 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE), also saw positive trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-advancing 49 points to stand at 16,408 points, also at 11:00am.
The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also gained 30 points to stand at 9,924 points till then.
Of the issues traded till then, 49 gained, 27 declined and 14 issues remained unchanged with Tk 8.0 million in turnover.
