DSE pays Tk 331m taxes through e-TDS

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has started availing the electronic tax deducted at source (e-TDS) system to pay taxes to the public exchequer.

It paid Tk 331 million under Tax Zone-13 of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) using the e-TDS system.

The DSE paid the tax - for the month of January against deduction from different sources - under automated chalan (a-chalan) system to the public exchequer last week. The Tax Zone-13 organised a programme on Tuesday to officially appreciate the DSE for using the automated system.

Income tax commissioner Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, additional tax commissioners Khandaker Khorshid Kamal and Md Abdus Sabur Khan, joint commissioner Kazi Abu Mahmud Faisal, deputy commissioners Chad Sultana Chowdhurani, Shuhan Syed, Ariful Huq, Md Moniruzzaman, Utpal Kumar Das and Md Omar Faruq, among others, attended the programme.

From the DSE, its chief operations officer (COO) Md Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar and senior manager Md Khaleduzzaman were present. Income tax commissioner Mr Chowdhury delivered thanks to the DSE for depositing taxes through the e-TDS system. He handed over a souvenir to the DSE team to encourage using the transparent system.

The DSE COO said the e-TDS is a taxpayer-friendly and time-befitting system.

Earlier, NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem instructed all tax zones across the country to popularise the system.

The NBR launched the e-TDS system in last October to facilitate some 350,000 corporate taxpayers. The board collects 64 per cent of its direct tax as TDS.

Officials said automation of the e-TDS system can check leakage of taxes and thwart tax evasion.

A 21-member team of tax officials developed the e-TDS system through interconnecting with the a-challan system of the Ministry of Finance.
