DSE, CSE witness mostly lower at opening

The prices of most of the shares witnessed downward trend in early hour of trading Monday, amid the government holidays, as risk-averse investors are selling shares amid ongoing quarterly earnings.

Following the previous week’s mild correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened on negative trend amid low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 14 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse lost 6.35 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX lost more than 23 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse fell 37 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 23.31 points or 0.40 per cent to reach at 5,790 points at 11:00am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also fell 9.23 points or 0.42 per cent to reach at 2,162 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 6.42 points or 0.48 per cent to reach at 1,337 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 960 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 85 advanced, 113 declined and 38 remained unchanged.

BRAC Bank was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 127 million changing hands, closely followed by Beximco Tk 112 million, Western Marine Shipyard Tk 65 million, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Tk 58 million and IBN Sina Tk 41 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw negative trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-shedding 37 points to stand at 17,889, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also lost 23 points to stand at 10,813 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 39 gained, 35 declined and 13 issues remained unchanged with Tk 45 million in turnover.

The markets will remain close on Tuesday and Wednesday on the occasion of May Day and holy Shab-e-Barat respectively.
