DSE, CSE witness downturn at opening

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed downward trend in early hour of trading Wednesday as investors are on selling binge amid fresh concern over DSE strategic partner.

The securities regulator has identified some ‘flaws’ in Chinese consortium bid to be DSE strategic partner.

Following the previous day’s marginal gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened mixed with slow trend.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 1.90 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse lost 1.66 points at 10:45 am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX fell more than 12 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse lost 35 points at 11:00 am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 12.48 points or 0.21 per cent to reach at 5,786 points at 11:00 am.

The two other indices also saw downward trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 2.79 points or 0.13 per cent to reach at 2,138 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 2.56 points or 0.18 per cent to stand at 1,353 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 653 million when the report was filed at 11:00 am amid ongoing liquidity crisis.

Of the issues traded till then, 78 advanced, 125 declined and 66 remained unchanged.

IFAD Autos was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 80 million changing hands, followed by BBS Cables Tk 34 million, Pharma Aids Tk 26 million, LankaBangla Finance Tk 25 million and Beximco Pharma Tk 24 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI- losing 35 points to stand at 17,908, also at 11:00 am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also shed 21 points to stand at 10,807 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 18 gained, 44 declined and 15 issues remained unchanged with Tk 21 million in turnover.
