Stock brokers and merchant bankers on Sunday called an emergency meeting to take stock of the capital market.
DSE Brokers Association (DBA) and Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA) will hold the meeting with top 30 brokers of Dhaka Stock Exchange in the evening.
The meeting follows the sluggish trend of the market for the last few days.
Following the previous week’s one of the largest weekly fall in two years, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened with a steep decline amid thin participation of investors at trading floor on Sunday.
Within first 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX plunged more than 53 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CAPSI) of the port city’s bourse lost 85 points at 11:00am.
The downward trend continued on Sunday and the benchmark index of the DSE-DSEX, lost more than 120 points till filling the report at 2.20pm.
On Wednesday last, DSEX fell 88 points.
Following the sharp decline, DSE Brokers Association (DBA) and merchant bankers held another emergency meeting, saying the market fall is a ‘political rumour’ spread by vested quarters through creating panic among the investors, prompting them to go for disposing of their stocks.
