Bourses open higher on investors' buying appetite

Stocks witnessed an upward trend in the early hour of trading on Sunday as some investors continued their buying appetite on sector-wise issues.

Following the previous week’s positive streak, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher today (Sunday) with rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, DSEX, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 21 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 5.0 points at 10.45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX went up more than 30 points while the CASPI of Chattogram bourse gained more than 0.70 point at 11:00am when the report was filed.

The DSEX then went up by 30.73 points or 0.64 per cent to stand at 4,762 points at 11:00am.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 2.32 points to stand at 1,084 points till then. However, the DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 0.10 point to 1,647 points.

Turnover, one of the important indicators of the market, stood at Tk 1.18 billion when the report was filed.

Of the issues traded till then, 209 advanced, 56 declined, and 37 remained unchanged.

LafargeHolcim was the most traded stocks till filing of this report with shares worth Tk 162 million changing hands, followed by Paramount Textile, Fortune Shoes, Shurwid Industries, and Active Fine Chemicals.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a positive trend till then with the CASPI gaining 0.70 points to stand at 14,393 points, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index (CSCX) fell 0.67 point to stand at 8,742 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 67 advanced, 29 declined, 13 remained unchanged with Tk 37 million in turnover.
