Bourses mostly lower amid sluggish trade

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed a downward trend in the early trade on Monday as investors continued to show their selling binge.

Following the previous six days’ major correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened lower amid sluggish trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 28 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse fell 12 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX lost more than 34 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse fell 67 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 34.48 points or 0.59 per cent to came down below the 5,800-mark to reach at 5,797 points at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw downward trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 11 points or 0.53 per cent to reach at 2,130 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 7.22 points or 0.53 per cent to stand at 1,354 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at only Tk 477 million when the report was filed at 11:00am amid persistent liquidity crisis.

Of the issues traded till then, 53 advanced, 158 declined, and 49 remained unchanged.

The IBN Sina was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 43 million changing hands, closely followed by National Tubes Tk 38 million, Square Pharma Tk 26 million, Unique Hotel & Resorts Tk 22 million, and CVO Petrochemicals Refinery Tk 16 million.

The port city bourse (CSE) also saw a downward trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI- losing 67 points to stand at 17,941, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also lost 39 points to stand at 10,828 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 8 gained, 61 declined, and 9 issues remained unchanged with Tk 13 million in turnover.
