Bangladesh's capital market road show begins in Dubai today

A four-day long road show titled "Rising of Bengal Tiger: Potentials of Bangladesh Capital Markets", to attract foreign investors and non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to the country's stock market begins today (Tuesday) at Dubai in UAE.

The stock market regulator - Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) is organising the road show, the first of its kind in outside the country.

The road show is scheduled for February 9 to February 12 where series of seminars, bilateral and multilateral meetings will be held in different places in Dubai, UAE, according to a press release of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).

Land Minister of Bangladesh M Saifuzzaman Chowdhury will inaugurate the road show as chief guest today (Tuesday) at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai.

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam will preside over the inaugural ceremony.

The BSEC has plans to arrange similar road shows in London, Rome, Toronto, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo.

An investment bank of Switzerland, Credit Switch, will also hold a road show with its own fund.

The chairman of the securities regulator said, "We will present our potential and economic development and growth track record to attract investors. We hope more foreign investment will come soon."

Mahbubul Alam, executive director of BSEC said, at the road show, two summits on the Bangladesh capital market, and bilateral and multilateral meetings will also be held.

Besides, the regulator will hold two other programmes to uphold new investment opportunities and the scope for private equity and venture capital investment here.

He said the four days' programmee will showcase the robust economic growth and investment potentials in Bangladesh, investment opportunities, facilities, products and services of Bangladesh capital markets to both NRB and foreign investors.

UCB Stock Brokerage Ltd (former name-UCB Capital Management Limited), which is one of the top brokers in the Dhaka bourse, will launch a digital booth at Dubai.

The BSEC Chairman will inaugurate the booth at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai, on February 12 which is a major commercial city in the Middle East.

In November 2020, the BSEC allowed stockbrokers to open digital booths at home and abroad, in home and aboard in order to reach out to a wider population of investors.

After the stock market crash in 2010, the BSEC had put a bar on opening brokerage house branches beyond the capital.
