We need to start like a baby step in T20Is, says Shakib

Shakib Al Hasan, the T20I captain of Bangladesh, says the team needs to start afresh in order to do well in the shorter format of international cricket.

Bangladesh are now preparing for the Asia Cup starting on August 27 in the UAE. Shakib will lead in the team in this event. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already announced a squad.

In the event's initial phase, Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

“I don’t think we have a way other than starting afresh to do well in T20Is,” Shakib said on Saturday. “We played our first T20I in 2006. Since then, we couldn't do well in this format. We appeared only in one final of the Asia Cup.”

Shakib also said the Bangladesh team needs to start like a baby— one step at a time.

“We may not be able to do well at first,” Shakib added. “We have to start like a baby step. We can do well this way.”

Bangladesh has appointed Sridharan Sriram, a former Indian cricketer, as the T20 technical consultant for the Bangladesh team. He will work with the Bangladesh team till T20 World Cup.

Shakib said he is not expecting Sridhar would bring a big change to the Bangladesh T20 team within a few days.
