Virat Kohli notched up yet another milestone going past the 5000-run mark in Tests during the second session of day one of the third and the final Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi on Saturday.
After opting to field first, Kohli found himself in the middle after the departures of opener Shikhar Dhawn and Cheteshwar Pujara for the same score of 23.
On a batting wicket, both Dhawan and Pujara gifted their wickets away.
Starting the Test match at 4,975 runs, Kohli got together with Murlai Vijay and went on to play a backfoot punch off Suranga Lakmal to bring up the milestone, according to a Times of India report.
Kohli became the 11th Indian batsman to achieve the milestone and the fourth fastest in terms of innings behind Sunil Gavaskar (95), Virender Sehwag (99) and Sachin Tendulkar (103). Kohli, playing his 63rd Test took 105 innings to cross the 5000-run mark.
Among the current crop of players, Kohli is the joint second fastest to the milestone along with Joe Root. Steve Smith leads the chart having made 5000 runs in 97 innings. South Africa's Hashim Amla and Australia's David Warner took 109 innings each while Kane Williamson got to the landmark in his 110th innings.
